Creating A Safe Haven

Creating A Safe Haven Established in 1978 in Cape Town, South Africa, the Haven Night Shelter was founded with the goal of helping adults living in the streets find temporary shelter while trying to re-integrate them back into society. This is done through rehabilitation opportunities, social welfare services, family reunification services, physical care and support to those who are committed to re-integration. Over the years, the Haven Night Shelter has partnered with religious institutions, organisations, welfare bodies, service providers, businesses, government departments, local authorities and individuals who are concerned with the care and welfare of the destitute. The Photovoltaic system installed at the Shelter at 2 Napier Street, Cape Town, helps lower electricity consumption and reduce dependency on the City of Cape Town’s electricity grid. Additionally, the DUKKS Foundation was also able to sponsor a bi-directional electricity meter which will help the Shelter receive credit for any excess electricity generated and fed back into the Grid. In correspondence with the team that installed the system, Hassan Khan, current CEO of the Haven Night Shelter Welfare Organisation shared some of his thoughts on the new Photovoltaic installation: “Thank you so much for helping the Haven reduce its energy costs. We spend 11% of the state subsidy paying for electricity. Your help frees up money for helping more people back to a home, family or community of their choice. Bless you and your team.” Hassan Khan, CEO, Haven Night Shelter Welfare Organisation The Photovoltaic electricity system installed will hopefully go a long away in ensuring that the Shelter at 2 Napier Street is able to keep its doors open for much longer. In addition, the services they render will be able to assist more and more adults trapped in the streets find purpose and meaning in life and ultimately re-unite with their loved ones. To re-unite not just in a temporary shelter but a permanent one. A true safe haven. DONATE Photovoltaic Panels installed at 2 Napier Street, Green Point, Cape Town.
